London Mars

Earth is the cradle of humanity, but one cannot live in a cradle forever.

Mars is well equipped for human colonisation. Natural disasters and man-made calamities have come to Earth. Humans need to leave Earth in order to continue the civilisation of mankind. Boldness determines vision. I am looking forward to the imminent landing of human beings on Mars and their successful survival there.

What will become of Mars in the process of colonisation? In this project London Mars shows spectators what the city of London on Mars might look like. Imagine London emigrating to Mars. This project offered viewers a perspective of London cityscapes and landscapes on Mars.

This project has been inspired by several things such as a board game called Terraforming Mars, a TV series Foundation, and a Japanese Animation called Gundam. I played the game Terraforming Mars a lot, at least 1000 times! The cards in that game motivates me with the visual element of my works that help me create the martian view of London. In this project, I create ‘Martian Rails’ for hats off to the powerful project card ‘Martian Rails’. Besides Terraforming Mars, the Foundation TV series inspired many aspects of this work. The Foundation series is a classic science fiction book series first published in 1942. The TV adaptation, while loosely based on the books, includes many scenes involving cosmology and science that sparked my imagination about what might occur in the universe or on Mars. The meteor beam in the final image, Look Up Origin, was inspired by Synnax—the planet where the character Gaal Dornick was born. At the same time, Japanese animation—especially Gundam—has been deeply important to me. I watched Gundam as a child. Gundam Seed, Gundam 00, and Gundam UC are my favourite series. In this project, the Orbital Elevator is inspired by Gundam 00.
